I had to do a mad dash to the library this morning, having woken up at some ungodly hour freaking that my borrowed books were due back yesterday. Luckily the Arrowtown library doesn't open until ten, so hopefully I will get away with my late returns.
With the totally miserable weather we've been experiencing over the last few weeks, there's certainly been time for soaking up new knowledge. I've been lent two great books by friends recently; "The Dirty Life" by Kristin Kimball, and "Mastering the Art of Self Sufficiency in New Zealand" by Carolann Murray. Interestingly, both books came with the advice that I should write my own. Good grief, it's been enough of a creative struggle to sit down and write a blog post lately!
It's a shame this blog doesn't come with a sound track, as at the moment Abu the Roo is escorting a parade of ladies around the garden outside my window. His tour commentary is almost continuous. I'm not sure what he's telling them but none of the girls are saying anything, so he's either really interesting, or they've given up trying to get a word in edgeways. Prince Charming is scratching around the blackcurrant bush, while Pinecone the frizzle is doing a very manly round of chest thumping with Iceberg under the clothes line.
Pinecone started to crow yesterday, at least I think he was crowing. The sound was more along the lines of a rusty "Parp Parp" sound, but I was very proud of him all the same.
I have another seven days of thrice daily egg turning to go, and sadly when I candled the eggs earlier today the incubator gremlins have reduced the egg count down to nine, with only one pheasant egg holding a live chick. Will keep my fingers crossed that these remaining littlies survive through til hatching.
Oh my god! I've just watched Pinecone and Iceberg chase a blackbird around the lawn. They took off in hot pursuit as soon as it landed, and Pinecone's run is absolutely comical as he tends to lurch from side to side like a wind up toy. Funniest thing I've seen in days!
What I've learnt today:
1. Abu the Roo takes any open door as an invitation to pop inside and check things out.
2. Check out the new page I've just added - you definitely do learn something new every day!
