Trade Me

Did you know http://www.trademe.co.nz/ has 2,651,414 members?  Not bad for a country with a population of 4.something million people. 

As of a few minutes ago there were 1,785,898 listings on Trade Me.  I'm proud to say 21 of those items for sale are mine, and I have NOTHING on my watchlist to buy! The Boss will be so proud. You see, it's time for a clean out (and time to scrape up cash for the next round of chook feed).

I scarcely remember life before Trade Me.  There're vague recollections of scanning the classified ads in the paper on a Saturday morning, and going garage sale-ing when there was nothing better to do.

My day wouldn't be complete without searching Trade Me for bargains.  It's been like that for quite some time, as I'm proud to say that although the website has over 2.6 million members, I'm member number 485. 

Yeap, back in the 1990's when dial-up was the norm I took the plunge into the unknown and signed up to what was to become the Trade Me phenomenon.  Those were the days when you could scroll through every single item listed in less than half an hour (even at dial up speed).

Back then Trade Me gave you a $5 credit for joining - wish I'd used it to buy shares in the company! 

Anyway, I figure my Trade Me membership number is proof that I'm an innovator - an explorer not a follower.  Just not sure what new adventure comes next.  Watch this space I guess, and if you're looking for a bargain (or want to donate to the chook feed fund), search Trade Me listings for kat.irons.

OOPS!  What I learnt today:

1. It is very frustrating to see that although no-one has bid on 20 of my 21 items for sale, nearly all of them have people watching the auctions - why can't they just bid!  Hang on, almost forgot I'm the champion of sticking things on my watchlist.
2. Don't let your piggles chew on your ankles.  They may get carried away and leave holes in your socks.
