Noodle the Jack Russell and I were out walking through the vineyard on Wednesday afternoon when two trains of thought went chugging through the dark tunnel of my brain.
Firstly I couldn’t help thinking how fortunate I was – how many people have the time or the opportunity to stroll through a vineyard on a weekday afternoon? And on the subject of vineyard walking, how many dogs are short enough to be able to run at full speed under the dripper lines without having to duck to avoid decapitation?
This led me to my second train of thought for the afternoon – is it true that dogs and their owners look alike?
Well, Noodle and I both have short legs – there’s no denying that. We both have random white hairs peppering our darker hair, although I don’t think Noodle gives a stuff about hers. We both have brown eyes, if only mine could be as melting as hers.
The Boss would be the first to agree that neither Noodle nor I can walk in a straight line; and I admit, sometimes my listening skills can fluctuate to non-existent, just like hers. On a cold frosty morning there’s no argument that we’d both prefer to stay in our nice warm beds.
Another thing we have in common is that when we travel in the car with The Boss, he won’t let either of us drive.
Okay, I don’t know about LOOKING alike, but Noodle and I definitely share some a number of traits. On the other hand, if someone served me up raw rabbit and dog biscuits in a plastic takeaways dish, I think I’d react in quite the opposite manner to Noodle.
What I’ve learnt recently;
1. Dropping a two litre container of milk at The Warehouse is an interesting way to meet new people. It’s amazing the distance milk splashes can travel.
2. Dropping a two litre container of milk at The Warehouse causes less disruption than a baby vomiting over one of their checkout terminal keyboards. I know this because a staff member told me the story in full, technicolour detail. The mental images are too graphic to share….
